THE OXFORD SALOON in Snohomish, WA
3 March 2006

Easily considered one of the most haunted places in Snohomish, WSGS set out to capture more evidence of this famous locale. Previously, members had tromped through its darkened upstairs hallways and lower level bars and were astonished at amazing EVPs and sensations of ghostly presences. The evidence was so compelling, the society has created an EVP CD showcasing the voices captured during these investigations.

When we returned in March of 2006, three teams were broken up to explore each level independently. The teams consisted of a sensitive and two investigators. The findings were equivalent to the original investigation months earlier. Our WSGS Sensitives were able to pick up on the presence of male upstairs known to open doors and send chills down the spines of present-day occupants. He appeared very early in the investigation, draining investigator’s digital camera batteries and dropping the ambient temperature of the room. An EVP was captured, where he requested WSGS members to “Speak Up.” One of Sensitives was feeling nauseous from his presence. Also upstairs, a female presence was detected in the bathroom. Rumor has it, a prostitute was found dead in the bathtub back in the early days of the Saloon being a brothel. Indeed, female voices have been captured on EVPs.

Downstairs in the lower bar, another of our Sensitives picked up on a male presence that had died there as a result of smoke inhalation. After further investigation, it was revealed that there had been a fire in the town’s past – one that wiped out nearly all of First street where the Oxford is located. Moreover, a second male was detected, showing our Sensitive images of lacerations and blood. Turns out, a former Snohomish police officer was murdered there, stabbed to death.

One of the best images captured at the Oxford was done using infrared film, taken in the lower level bar. It appears to show the back of an elderly woman, shoulders up. We compared it with a photograph of a lady in the upper bar, where we learned that the woman in the photograph used to be a former owner of the Oxford. Is it possible we captured an image of her walking its floors?

To this day, there are still strange incidents going on at the Oxford. Bands complain of their equipment mysteriously being unplugged. The fire extinguisher has on occasion flew off its perch. A bartender tells the story of how a box of matches flew off the counter and opened up on the floor.

The Oxford definitely has a rich and varied history. It also appears to be the home of some rich and varied departed personalities.

SAMPLE AUDIO
(The following excerpts are looped several times and some loops volume enhanced)

EVP 1: “Somebody’s Watching” – You’ll hear a woman say “Somebody’s Watching.” This is not the voice of one of our investigators. What’s eerie, you do hear our investigator ask “Are you watching us and curious about what we’re doing here?”

EVP 2: “I Am the One” – Imagine how our investigator jumped out of her chair when she heard this voice on the recording. This was captured during the first investigation at the Oxford.

EVP 3: “Speak Up” – This is a whisper captured from the March 2006 investigation. It’s looped several times and enhanced/filtered so you can hear it.
